MILLARD FILLMORE was President in 1850 after the Revolutionary War ended. When he was 14 years old, he was apprenticed to a clothmaker who treated him badly. He even threatened him with an ax. He changed masters and bought his freedom for $30. The first book he ever owned was a dictionary.
