In Memory of Hollis Smith

In Memory of Hollis Smith
1932 - 1982
Painted with oil - 1984

The house in the picture is the house where the artist's daughter, Pat and her husband, Hollis lived while they farmed in 1956. This was the year their first child, Elton, was born. The house was in the middle of a field and the farm implement shows his love of farming, the plane in the sky depicts his love of flying; a passion which ultimately resulted in his death. The tree represents a life which was cut short in its prime, but the growth from the roots symbolizes a hope of a life after death, as well as a continuing influence in the lives of his loved ones.
