"Hot or Cold"



Purpose: Which is better, hot or cold water, for removing stains?

Hypothesis: Hot water will remove a stain better than cold water.

Materials


6 equal squares of white material

3 packets of ketchup

1 bowl hot water (130 degrees F)

1 bowl of cold water (est. 68 degrees F)

1 Tbsp. Oxydol detergent in each bowl

Procedure


1.

Stain white cloth with ketchup.

2.

Cut material into equal squares.

3.

Place stained material in a bowl of hot water and a bowl of cold water, each with detergent.

4.

Check cloth for stain removal every minute for 15 minutes.


Conclusion: Is hot or cold water better in removing stains?

Hot

5 min. - no change

10 min. - visible loss of stain

15 min. - increased loss of stain

Cold

5 min. - no change

10 min. - slight loss of stain

15 min. - more loss of stain

Conclusion: Hot water removes stains better than cold water.
